What would you do, if you had a Time Machine? Well, I would take $2500, convert it into 1950 issue Currency… get in this new, High-Faluting Time Machine and go back to 1952, and buy as many Topps Baseball card boxes as $2500 would buy me.
In 1952, Topps Baseball cards, second series ( 311- 407 ) came out very late in the season and Topps had a hard time
selling them. 1952 second series cards were even inserted into packs of 1953 Topps baseball cards sold in Canada. They still had so many left over that they chartered a boat and dumped thousands of these second series cards into the ocean. And yes, that included the Mantle cards. Because so many of the second series was destroyed, they now carry a premium as they are the scarcer of the two series. I would be there with my $2500 and buy the thousands of Mantles off their hands.
With the $2500, I could also buy 50,000 packs of cards with my $2500 at $0.05 a pack.. with 12 cards per pack and only 96 cards in that series, I would be able to buy 600,000 1952 Topps Cards… 600,000 / 96, means I would have a realistic chance at approximately, 6250 Mickey Mantle Rookies.
LOUISVILLE, Kentucky (AP) — A Michigan man who lost his right hand in a work-related accident more than 30 years ago became the third successful hand transplant recipient in the United States, doctors said Thursday.
David F. Savage was doing well the day after the surgery at Jewish Hospital in Louisville.
Doctors said the transplant for Savage, 54, presented unusual challenges because of the length of time between losing his hand in a machine press and the surgery. The blood vessels leading to Savage’s hand had shrunk because they were not in use, said Dr. Warren Breidenbach, the lead surgeon.
Fla. Man Loses Arm to Alligator Attack. 4 Sheriff’s Deputies Pull Florida Man From Alligator’s Jaws; Victim Loses Part of Arm. LAKELAND, Fla. - Sheriff’s deputies pulled a naked man from the jaws of a nearly 12-foot long alligator that almost completely severed the man’s arm, the sheriff’s office said.
Four deputies waded through thick mud about 20 feet into Lake Parker to find Adrian Apgar, 45, around 4 a.m. Wednesday morning, the sheriff’s office said. They were responding to multiple reports about a man screaming for help.
Deputy Billy Osborne said he pulled Apgar’s arms while the gator gripped the man’s lower half and eventually helped pull Apgar free. The deputies said they couldn’t shoot the animal because it was too dark and they might have hit the victim.
It was not clear why Apgar was in the water at such an early hour. Polk County Sheriff Grady Judd said Apgar told deputies he had been smoking crack.
Apgar was taken to the hospital in critical condition with an apparent broken right arm, leg injuries and his left arm hanging by a tendon. Hospital officials did not immediately release information about his condition. None of the deputies were injured.
Fish and Wildlife trappers said they believe they caught the alligator near the site of the attack later Wednesday, although they said they couldn’t be sure it was the same animal.
