What would you do, if you had a Time Machine? Well, I would take $2500, convert it into 1950 issue Currency… get in this new, High-Faluting Time Machine and go back to 1952, and buy as many Topps Baseball card boxes as $2500 would buy me.

In 1952, Topps Baseball cards, second series ( 311- 407 ) came out very late in the season and Topps had a hard time
selling them. 1952 second series cards were even inserted into packs of 1953 Topps baseball cards sold in Canada. They still had so many left over that they chartered a boat and dumped thousands of these second series cards into the ocean. And yes, that included the Mantle cards. Because so many of the second series was destroyed, they now carry a premium as they are the scarcer of the two series. I would be there with my $2500 and buy the thousands of Mantles off their hands.

With the $2500, I could also buy 50,000 packs of cards with my $2500 at $0.05 a pack.. with 12 cards per pack and only 96 cards in that series, I would be able to buy 600,000 1952 Topps Cards… 600,000 / 96, means I would have a realistic chance at approximately, 6250 Mickey Mantle Rookies.

I would get back in my Time Machine and then fast forward to 1986, and sell the 3/4ths of the Mantle rookies for the street value at that time of $6500. Considering I had so many in such great shape, Id probably sell them for about $5000 each. Netting me a cool $31,250,000. Consider the fact that I would have some Roy Campanella’a and Eddie Matthews worth each around a Grand, which I could sell for about 1/2 face value for a nice extra amount of change… 12.5 Million extra. So, after my trip to 1952 and to 1986… Im up $43,750,000. Next stop, Microsoft IPO.

With my newly acquired $43 million, Im going to Wall Street and watch Bill Gates do his IPO. With my millions, I can now purchase 1,562,500 shares of Gates visionary company, which opened at $28 a share on March 13th 1986. Being a smart investor, I will hold this until after their May 1994 2 for 1 Split and truly reap the benefits of my investing mastery. This means I would have doubled the original amount of shares… but wait.

On Sept. 18, 1987 MSFT has 2 for 1 split, on April 12, 1990 another 2 for 1, now I have 6,250,000 shares of MSFT. Well now, on June 26, 1991 MSFT has a 3 for 2 split, meaning for every 2 shares, I get 3. So now, I have 9,375,000. Watch out Warren Buffet! Im an investing guru! Whoa! Check this out, a year later on June 12, 1992… ANOTHER 3 for 2 Split. Now, I got me a paltry 14,062,500 shares of Gates Golden Jewel. And finally, on May 20, 1994 another 2 for 1, leaving me with 28,125,000 shares of MSFT valued at $50.63. Meaning my Time Machine has me now worth, $1,423,968,750. Over a billion. Heh. Man, my investment strategy is unheralded. And Im not done yet!


AOL has a little IPO in 1992, so Im going back in time a bit and snagging myself some. $11.50 a share. With my billion plus, I can buy 123,823,369 shares. Mwha hah aha. Long story short… AOL has seven 2 for 1 splits, 11/22/99, 02/22/99, 11/17/98, 03/16/98, 11/28/95, 04/27/95, and on 11/23/94. These splits leave me with more stock than AOL even HAD! heh. 15,849,391,304 shares!

Fast forward to 1999 and sell at height of the madness @ $97 a share. Daddy Travis is now the world’s first Trillionaire worth $1,537,390,956,488. Now I could get greedy and go to 1998 and buy Apple at around $5 a share. Then there is the Google IPO. But you know, I ain’t trying to take all the money, you know… that would be ridiculous?

But hey, if you figure this whole Time Machine thing, give me a holla. I know a couple ways that we could make some coin! heh.

Maybe I should have started with only $100. I bet, Id still be a billionaire, eh. Anyway, what would YOU do with a Time Machine.
