Once again the holidays are upon us, which means it’s time for festive partying with friends and family, sharing gifts and laughter — and getting depressed. That’s right. For many people, the holidays bring on feelings of sadness and anxiety that can be hard to shake.
According to the National Mental Health Association, reasons for feeling blue around the holidays are numerous. They range from fatigue — a result of all of the increased holiday activity — to financial limitations and family tensions. Experts say one of the fastest routes to holiday depression is unrealistic expectations.
“People often hold on to what they remember as an ideal holiday from years gone by, and are unable to reproduce it,” said Jill RachBeisel, M.D., director of community psychiatry at the University of Maryland Medical Center. “There are also expectations around the holidays that ‘everything must be perfect’, and perfection is, of course, rarely obtainable.”

There are a gazillion ways to save money, which is probably one of the reasons why I love my job so much… the information we can share with you is endless! And Christmas is certainly one of those times when we need to implement as many money-saving tips as we can; so that we can spend less and enjoy the true meaning of Christmas even more! I’ve listed 39 ways to save money at Christmas below, you may have tried some of them already but hopefully there will be something you can add to your frugal holiday traditions.
Christmas Cards:
1. Either don’t send Christmas cards or cut your list in half!
2. Send postcards or letters, instead of Christmas cards.Â
3. You can even cut your old Christmas cards from last year in half, and send the pretty side as a postcard. I did this many years and it works great, plus you’re being ‘earth friendly’ by keeping new cards out of the garbage dumps.
4. If you send postcards, whether purchased or homemade, remember they require less postage than a regular card!

Just take a metal hanger, bend it in half a little, then bend the hook down and adjust as necessary. It’s pretty stable, being what it is.
